Surface Pattern Designer to watch out for - Kirath Ghundoo

Kirath Ghundoo is a surface pattern designer I admire. She graduated from Leeds College of Art, followed by an MA in Textiles from Huddersfield University and is now based in County Durham, Northern England.

Kirath launched her first wallpaper collection ‘Mix ‘n’ Match 11’ at 100% Design,London, September 2011. Her wallpapers are sustainable and are designed to be applied using a drop, cut, paste, re-apply technique, limiting wastage and using much off the roll as possible. There are a number of possibilities from one roll, as the papers are designed not to match up or repeat, they are hassle free to apply. Labelled as the ‘queen of pretty geometrics’ her signature design style is recognisable from the enticing blocks of colour

Number Rug

My inspiration behind this Rug is..well..you guessed right - Numbers!
Everything's become a number these days from people to connections

I would have loved the blue numbers to have a denim like effect like in my sketch, but that was quite hard to weave; am quite pleased with the outcome!

The tree that I hug inspired my scarf

Recently I submitted a design of scarf for Anthropologie. Their theme was - 'Your Element' and my element is inspired by a tree that I hug. Its bark is coarse, its shade so big and the world so small. Call me the tree hugging lady, but I have to, just have to., give back an ounce of love that it spreads everyday

Kvadrat : A connoisseur of textiles

If you are someone who loves textiles, wovens and colors, you cannot, but fall in love with Kvadrat. Recently I had the privilege of visiting their store in Milan, Italy and was floored by their detail in color, design and products.
A little bit about Kvadrat; Kvadrat was established in Denmark in 1968 and now holds a leading position in the European market of design-textiles supplying renowned architects, designers and furniture manufacturers throughout the world, for use in upholstery and curtains. The company continuously seeks to push the aesthetic and artistic boundaries of textiles, working the world’s top designers, architects and artists including Alfredo Häberli, Peter Saville, Akira Minagawa, Tord Boontje, David Adjaye and Olafur Eliasson.

Kvadrat’s first textile ‘Hallingdal’ has become the archetype of woollen textiles. The very durable upholstery fabric was originally designed in 1965 by Nanna Ditzel, and is now available in a version with an updated colour scale: Hallingdal 65.
