Sketching Corridors in Italy

When I was in Tuscany this summer, I had plans to sketch the beautiful country side. Well, none of that happened as instead I fell in love with Italian corridors.

I stood there gazing into these cobblestoned winding streets or sometime steal a peak into some open doors leading into these wonderful corridors.
I was Alice in Wonderland gazing into my rabbit hole.
Sharing some of my sketches of the inspirational corridors

Tradition in Patterns

Hello Monday and all you lovely people,

Im back from a wonderful vacation in Florence and Rome. Hope you all are having a lovely summer too.
These past few days I have been thinking a lot about cultural heritage and preservation of a culture and its art. I designed this series of patterns inspired by the culture that I grew up in and the wonderful art form in textiles of Kantha and Ikat. This style and colors of work is close to my heart and I think is here is to stay with me

Love Graypants

I saw graypants for the first time in the Milan furniture fair 2012 and found them to be brilliant. It is a company founded in 2008, run by three geniuses, Jon, Seth and Alan who have found an ingenious reuse for carton boxes - making scraplights and furniture!
How eco friendly is that!
I was simply amazed to see the light fixtures in Milan and stood there enraptured till Jon, came up to me, introduced himself and told me about their company. He is one of the most humble designers that I have met. He gave me his card and asked for mine..to which I said…''I'll get in touch with you''....whattttt?? silliest thing that I have ever said..but that wasn't me....
today's blog is an apology to my silly reply and kudos to graypants!

You can buy their lamps online or through a distributor in Norway, Finland, India, Copenhagen, Belgium, France, Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand

Sharing with you some clicks from the Sep' 12 fair that I thought were very inspirational and trend setting...

This is for you Mom - Mémoires de la Rose

I grew up with one of the most creative person that I know, my Mother.
As a child I always saw her, knitting, cross-stitching, hemming, making embroidered daisies on my skirts, planting sweet peas, tending the dahlias and telling me that the world is a beautiful, happy place.
This made me the designer and the person, that I am today
My this collection of cross stitched Roses called Mémoires de la Rose is a tribute to my mum. It is being sold in Austria and Germany by Mömax

SimiDesign Stationary Project

Worked on this super fun stationary project, the best part being that I actually covered my old planners and diaries in my prototype paper.

Color Inspirations from real life

What is that makes a surface pattern design unique and stand out from the rest. Lot of times its the Color.
80% of all the information around us reaches our brain via the eyes, making color play a key role in influencing our choices. To put it simply, we are hard wired to respond to color.
So, where do designers get their color inspiration from? Well, we just look around us. We see what you see, except we store it in a pocket called - Color Inspiration

Here are a few pages from my pocket book,

Clouds : Free, light, sky, soft, blue
Burano : Warm, earthy, mud, mother, mosaic
Austria :  Couture, fashion, lipstick, pattern

Bombay : Rain, fresh, colors, green, warm, home

My T-shirt Designs for Olympics 2012

Olympics 2012 are nearly here and I love their motto, Inspire a generation

To get into the mood, I have made some T-shirt prints for Olympics 2012 for teenagers. The tricky part here are the rules. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited has issued a 61 page document on the statuary marketing rights, in simpler words, while designing any products for Olympics 2012 - one cannot use their logo, or the rings, or the words 'London 2012' or words 'Olympics' or 'Olympiad' the list goes on…making the project very strict..and must say very challenging
….and need I say - I love a good challenge

here is what I made today..and am I glad there are, already a few takers..

Retro Illustrations

Hello Monday! Hope we all had a good weekend.

Retro Illustrations, are like a time machine; they transport one back into an era of painted posters on tin, verbose captions, radios and vespas. I love the ones with people and fonts the most.

Here is my take on them,
